v0.1.30-pre.8
protected94c00661 · ·preview: a nostr note in a message is drawn as a preview card you can read in place - who wrote it, that it is a note and when, and the note's own text - with Note previews in Settings > Appearance to turn the cards off, and a tap on a note now opens it in the nostr app you have installed rather than always njump.me in a browser.

v0.1.30-pre.7
protected0c6e4aae · ·preview: under the Staircase look Settings becomes a window of its own on a desktop - the side column lists the settings pages while you are in them, Appearance is laid out as drawn with the theme as three pictures of the app and the language as a pop-up, and every settings row carries its own colour on the phone too. Pack 04 part 2, finishing the Staircase Pro series.
-
v0.1.30-pre.6
protecteda5885ae2 · ·preview: under the Staircase look a wide window gets one sidebar instead of a rail and a list, with a search box and a footer, and the conversation's messages are held to a centred column.
-
v0.1.30-pre.5
protectedf32fd670 · ·preview: under the Staircase look a link inside your own message is legible again - a web address, an @mention, a reference to another note and the bar beside a quoted line were drawn in the colour that look fills your own bubble with, in every palette and both modes, and now take the bubble's own text colour with the underline still marking a link. Classic and Ink & paper unchanged.
-
v0.1.30-pre.4
protected1a95ee00 · ·preview: under the Staircase look a group's page is headed by the group itself, with its three actions as tiles, its people in one card with the footnote that only they can read it, and the delete action in a red cell of its own; the first screen you meet carries the door drawing and the three things the app is, with every way in where it was; the introduction slides draw their pictures. Pack 03 complete. Classic and Ink & paper untouched.
-
v0.1.30-pre.3
protected10fc71f0 · ·preview: under the Staircase look Settings gets its own serif title, square colour tiles, small-capital headings and a Connections card holding Coordinators and Relays & Blossom, with a footer naming the build; the Inbox is called Requests in English, and an account with nothing waiting is drawn rather than left blank. Classic and Ink & paper keep their own arrangement.
-
v0.1.30-pre.2
protectedc9f44c6e · ·preview: the Staircase look now arranges its own screens - chat list headed by its name with swipe-to-Mute/Pin rows, translucent bars and an inside-the-field send button in a conversation, a long press that dims the page and floats the reactions and menu around the message instead of a bottom sheet, and a sheet of tiles behind the +. Classic and Ink & paper untouched.
-
v0.1.30-pre.1
protected92e86156 · ·preview: under Ink & paper the + at the end of a message's reaction row is reachable again, so the emoji picker and every pack emoji can be used; Ink's HA! and WOW! chips are withdrawn, a reaction in your own words being what an emoji pack is for.

v0.1.29
protectedRelease: staircase v0.1.29cb098a02 · ·Staircase 0.1.29 Two new looks - Ink & paper and the designer's Staircase - custom emoji packs end to end, now searchable by name over your search relays, Italian and Korean (ten languages), sizes reading in the language you use, the web app's pre-load pages on brand, a knocking join request, and fixes to large-photo sending, a stranded chat, the chat list's order and rebuilds, late profile changes and an invisible reply quote in dark mode.
-
v0.1.29-pre.21
protecteda66bce4f · ·preview: Ink & paper's messages run wider on a phone - the 78% width cap now starts at a 600dp pane, so a phone message uses the width it is given - and Ink's outline goes from 2dp to 1.5dp; the Staircase look shares the width rule and gets the same relief.
-
v0.1.29-pre.20
protected95b64b5f · ·preview: a reply quoted inside a message now reads in both modes - under Staircase the quoted sender's name was pale blue on cream in dark mode and measured invisible, and a message's small print is lifted too; Classic and Ink & paper unchanged.

v0.1.29-pre.19
protectedf2b70328 · ·preview: Emoji packs can be found by name. Settings > Appearance > Emoji packs now has a Find-a-pack search: type a word, press Search, and the search relays your account already uses answer with the packs they hold - each row naming the pack, its author, how many emoji it holds and what a few are called, with an Add button. Nothing is asked of anyone until you press Search, and no pack's own host is contacted for a result: a row is drawn from what the relay sent, and the first picture is fetched only once you have added the pack and something draws one of its emoji. With your search relays emptied the screen says network search is off rather than quietly using a default, and a relay wanting a sign-in it did not get says so in the words Find people uses. Known wrinkle, filed: the first search of a session can report that the relay did not answer while your signer's prompt is still open - press Search again.

v0.1.29-pre.18
protected69435891 · ·preview: file sizes and storage figures now read in the language you are using - megaoctets in French, Cyrillic in Russian, a comma where the language writes one, and no space before the unit in Japanese and Korean. The emoji-pack cache chips, the held-size line, the attachment sheet and the too-big refusal all follow the catalogue; the numbers themselves are unchanged.
-
v0.1.29-pre.17
protected659d2d58 · ·preview: Staircase stops borrowing Classic's arrangement. Under the Staircase look the conversation is drawn the designer's way: your bubble is the ink itself with the paper as its text, everybody else's a warm grey, a tail corner on the last bubble of a run, runs closed up and the gap where the speaker changes opened out, a line the room writes itself centred bare, and the day in a serif italic beside the time. Group avatars are arched doors, an unread count a plain door-light capsule, chat rows parted by a hairline, the chosen tab drawn without a pill, and the send button lights up when there is something to send. Classic and Ink & paper are unchanged. The screen-layout rows of the pack are pack 03.

v0.1.29-pre.16
protected4ae0c713 · ·preview: adding an emoji pack no longer downloads the whole pack. A picture is fetched the first time something draws it and kept in a cache you can size in Settings (8, 32 or 128 MB, 32 by default), the picker asks only for the cells it shows, and typing a shortcode asks a pack's host for nothing at all. 'Download every picture now' is there for going offline. An install already holding more than the budget is trimmed to it at first load.
-
v0.1.29-pre.15
protectedd98dd326 · ·preview: Settings > Appearance offers a third look, the designer's "Staircase" (Paper & ink): warm paper by day, warm near-black by night, Fraunces for the large titles, and a colour under it changes the accent light alone. Pack 01 of the Pro install pack - colours, type and shapes; the bubbles and door avatars are pack 02, so it draws Classic's arrangement in its own colours. New installs still open on Ink & paper.
-
v0.1.29-pre.14
protected2873fe55 · ·preview: typing :name in a message now offers the emoji of the packs you added, and a pack emoji reads as its name in the chat list instead of a raw :shortcode:.
-
v0.1.29-pre.13
protectede71ba963 · ·preview: sending a very large photo no longer costs the app gigabytes of memory. Before encrypting a picture Staircase decodes it to strip the location, camera and time it carries; that decode is now inside a fixed budget, so a phone's own photos are still re-encoded at full size while far larger pictures are quietly shrunk instead of holding gigabytes (a 1.7-gigapixel image was measured at 3.4 GB before, 147 MB now). A picture that still cannot be rewritten says so and is sent as it is.
-
v0.1.29-pre.12
protected9f9f01ae · ·preview: the three pages the web app shows before it loads are drawn on brand - Step's door on cream paper in the app's own handwriting, light and dark, with the shell's faces cut to 18 KB.
-
v0.1.29-pre.11
protected83068240 · ·preview: the chat list no longer rebuilds itself for a list that has not changed — eleven rebuilds in the first three seconds of a cold start down to seven on a 44-chat account, and none at all for a write that touches nothing the list shows. What the list shows, and its order, is unchanged.
